Hillary and Chris’ Nostalgic Nautical Wedding Set
Hope you’re all having a good start on Spring, and weathering the seasonal allergies nicely. Andrew and I had our fair share of it last week — it’s a miracle how I mustered up the energy to finally catch up on styling some of our favorite projects from months ago. It must be all that sun we’re finally getting here in the PNW.
Anyway, on to the wedding set! Nautical-inspired ANYTHING is quite literally one of my most favorite concepts to do. Collaborating with Hillary and Chris really brought together some lovely ideas for this particular nautical theme.
The couple both share a love for travelling and having fun—which is a perfect thing to embody for this set. We wanted to make a strong early statement for the Save the Date, using iconic nautical imagery and an illustrated whale that’s slightly reminiscent of the old style book illustrations. Side Note: Just on the Save the Date—I couldn’t resist choosing these specific flags for pure aesthetics and balance, and not so much for its functional meaning.
Hillary and Chris also delight in the prospect of discovering new culture and interests through their travels. We tossed around visual ideas that give that child-like sense of adventure, much like these two’s constant enthusiasm for the uncharted.
The invitation set includes a large map of Martha’s Vineyard, along with specific information about the wedding venue and other important guest instructions. The contents were laid out to mimic a playful interpretation of a captain’s map.
A collection of vintage iconographies really bring the whole set together. I think the *real* challenge was trying to decide which symbols to use—there were just so many possibilities. This is precisely why I can never get tired of looking at all the nautical inspired work out there. For a seemingly very niched concept, the aesthetic direction you can take it to is surprisingly varied and the culture behind it runs quite deep. And for me at least, I always love how it can easily lean towards the mythical.
Hope you enjoyed taking a peek!

What I’ve Been Up To
This is mostly the fruit of my weekend! So so happy to finally get a bit of downtime from shop tasks. I’ve been sitting on an earlier version of my parrot illustrations for months now, thinking it was mostly done and just needed a bit of polishing. So I did (well, tried) and ended up just re-doing the whole thing from scratch (naturally). I’m liking the earthier pallet and richer strokes on this new one, and I’m calling it done! This is one of a few designs I’m working on for our new set of stationery products. The creative juices are flowing—I seriously cannot wait.
A few photos from our studio these past few weeks:
1. Our production table basically became a very large shelf while we prepped an Anthropologie order. You can soon find our birthday cards in a a few of their stores across the country. Very very stoked to be working with them again!
2. We had a bit of fun test-printing our monster cards as miniature litho prints. We’ve been working on having our whole line printed offset. Hopefully we’ll get it all done at the end of the month. I can’t tell you enough how happy and excited I am. I’ve been doing a lot of illustrations with full color coverage, and they just look so much better litho printed.
3. C’est moi! Pretending my table is always this neat and spritely looking. About time I have a proper photo on our about page.
4. A sneak peak of one of our newest wedding suites. I’ve been horribly behind on properly styling and photographing our latest custom works. You can blame the instant gratification that is instagram.
Thanks for reading! Happy weekend everyone! :)
